Anguilla is one of the "Leeward Islands" of the Lesser Antilles. Anguilla covers a total of about 91km², the island includes some smaller usually uninhabited islands (the largest are Scrub Island and Dog Island). Anguilla is one of the overseas territories of Great Britain and the United Kingdom.
The island is relatively flat, the highest point is just under 60 meters. Climatically, Anguilla can be counted among the tropical destinations with a typical climate for the Leeward Islands. The high temperatures seem comparatively pleasant due to the perceptible winds. Typical for the islands of the region are the storm periods with the hurricane season from about June to November, with their peak usually perceptible in the phase August to October.
The main town of the island is The Valley with a relatively dry climate and moderate northeast winds. Temperatures here fluctuate only slightly throughout the year - usually maxima of about 28°C in December, and about 31°C in July. The reasons for these small fluctuations are the proximity to the equator as well as the permanent northeast winds.
The precipitation tendency is perceptible throughout the year, but also very variable. It is normally driest in February and March, with the highest precipitation in September and October. Warm and humid is the summer with the transition to the rainy season. Normally temperatures of over 30°C are possible in summer, even at night it does not drop significantly. In addition, there are the typical precipitation phases with often short and heavy showers. In winter, from December to March, temperatures are not as high (rarely over 30°C). In addition, during this phase, temperatures drop more significantly at night.
As a rule, the best time to travel to Anguilla is considered to be the phase from December to April. It is then not so hot and relatively dry (not free of precipitation!). But: you are now in the high season. There is a lot going on and the prices are higher. Experience has shown that the island is particularly busy in December, but there is also a lot going on from January to April. Therefore, it may be worth considering the period from May to July. While we are now heading towards summer, Anguilla is heading towards the low season due to the onset of the hurricane season. That means: there is less going on and the prices are usually lower. The peak of the hurricane season is usually not reached in May and June, even July can still be good.
