The Bahamas are the northernmost Caribbean islands. They are located between 21° to 27° north. So to speak the Bahamas are located directly on the border of the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. Bahamas consists of almost a dozen larger and a large number of smaller islands or coral reefs. Most of the islands are comparatively flat.
Due to the influence of cool winds from North America the Bahamas can be comparatively cool in winter and also in spring compared to other Caribbean islands. This is especially true for the northern islands. Quite typical for the climate is the table of Nassau in the north of the archipelago on New Providence Iceland. Here you see temperatures under 10°C from November to March.
Bahamas otherwise has a pleasant climate. It is relatively warm all year round, in winter the Gulf Stream provides a mild climate. An exception are the phases, as described above, when cold winds from North America reach the northern islands.
In the summer, however, the cool air of the North American continent can be a good thing. Temperatures average a good 28°C, but the warmth is always quite pleasant due to the influence of the air. Hurricane season is usually from June to November. During that time, you always have to expect storms (in October 2015, for example, Hurricane Joaquin hit the southern Bahamas hard). Therefore, this phase is perhaps not the optimal travel time for the Bahamas.
Basically you can still travel to the Bahamas all year round. The main season is December to May. This is the period outside the hurricane season from about June to November. The latter can be a choice but you have to expect everything…
