Dominica is the northernmost of the so-called over-the-wind islands and is located in the southern part of the Lesser Antilles. It actually rains quite a bit on Dominica, but the rain is fairly evenly distributed almost throughout the year. However, there is also a rainy season with more rain than normal, it is between July and November.
July to November is also the hurricane season. Overall, Dominica gets relatively little from the hurricanes, because the really big storms do not appear here every year. Nevertheless, the hurricane hazard theoretically exists every year. And when they do occur, they bring a lot of rain with them and sometimes have a certain destructive power.
The climate on Dominica is generally subtropical, in the interior of the country in the rainforests one can speak of a tropical climate. It usually gets warmest from July to September, but this is also where the main rainy phase is. It is coolest from December to March, January to June is relatively dry.
According to most experts, the best time for Dominica is most likely between December / January and March / April. The temperatures are pleasant, it is relatively dry and it is not quite as warm. In December, however, you can still get into heavy rain phases e. g. around Christmas 2013.
