The Easter Islands (English Easter Islands, regional Rapa Nui) belong to Chile, but are a good 3,600km away from Chile in the Pacific. The islands are located in a zone with a subtropical climate. A basic rule can thus be applied to the climate of Easter Island: the fluctuations over the course of the year are small and the seasons are hardly noticeable. Summers tend to be warm, winters are generally mild.
Due to the geographic location, the seasons here are different than e.g. in Europe - it is winter here, it is summer there and vice versa, the winter season is when it is summer in Europe. It is therefore warmest from December/January to March/April at an average of approx. 25°C (maximum over 30°C), coolest from June to September at approx. 20°C. Accordingly, the number of hours of sunshine in the 'cooler' phase is lower than in the summer there
It usually rains evenly throughout the year. Mostly in the phase April to June (100 - 120mm with about 14 rainy days on average). Heavier rain showers usually come in the period from June to August, whereby the average amounts of precipitation are not higher in the months. The least rain usually comes November to February.
Rapa Nui is a good year-round destination. It is warmest from December to around March/April, which is why experts also call this the best time to travel to Easter Island. During the period it is warm (average 25-27°C, peaks over 30°C). In summer, the sea warms up well. Especially near the sea, higher temperatures are bearable due to the permanent light winds. During this phase, however, you have to reckon with light rain (mostly in the evenings), which can be a little heavier in rare cases. From June onwards, the water temperatures drop. The driest months are usually November and February, the wettest April and May. It can always be cooler at night from June to August, temperatures around 10°C are then possible.
