Best Time To Travel To: El Hierro

El Hierro has - as it is almost nicely usual for a Canary Island - a year-round pleasant climate. With annual temperatures averaging 17°C to 26°C, El Hierro is also known as 'eternal spring'. A certain exception is the influence of the hot desert wind. When it reaches the island, it can become very hot. However, these phases are usually of short duration.

Despite all comparability, El Hierro has to be considered separately. On the one hand, it is the smallest and also the westernmost Canary Island - and probably also the quietest of all Canary Islands. However, the landscape of the island is very diverse. The south is a very dry region, which is volcanic. The north, on the other hand, is quite green and is also used for agriculture. The mountain ranges on the island form a kind of weather divide here. The rain clouds get stuck there, so to speak, and rain increasingly falls in the north. The south gets less rain.

The high altitudes of the island are always somewhat cooler and also somewhat rainier. In winter it can be quite cool at the top, but snow is not necessarily the rule. In summer it gets quite dry with August and September being the driest and warmest months. The water temperatures normally reach their highest value of about 25°C in September and October. However, many travelers report that one must expect cooler evenings in summer.

Due to the year-round pleasant conditions, El Hierro has what it takes to be a year-round destination. However, one should plan for cooler phases in winter. In recent years, the phase from late November to January has proven to be quite unstable. If you want it really warm and with little rain, the best time for El Hierro (and here especially in the south) should be between June and October.
