Fiji is an archipelago in the South Pacific consisting of over 800 islands. However, two of the islands alone account for 90% of the total land area.
The islands are located on the International Date Line and have a tropical maritime climate. This means that conditions are relatively stable throughout the year and hardly change. It is usually warm to hot. Daytime temperatures show maximum fluctuations of 5° C.
However, Fiji is not only dry, the islands get quite a bit of rainfall. The main rainy season is between November and April. Only rarely do the islands get some of the hurricanes, which tend to rage in the northern Pacific. When it rains, it is usually short and heavy. Surprisingly often it rains when it was sunny in the morning. Longer periods of rain have to be feared in the rainy season.
Most parts of the islands get a lot of sunshine during the year, you can expect up to eight hours per day on average. The climate on the Fiji Islands is usually described as quite pleasant, even if the humidity is high in places. Mostly, however, this is alleviated by light breezes from the sea.
The climate table of the island capital Suva can be considered representative for the climatic conditions on the whole of Fiji, especially since the climatic conditions on the islands are generally very similar. According to most observers, the optimal time to travel to Fiji is during the dry season between May and October. The humidity also seems comparatively moderate during this time. Water temperatures are around 26° C during this time.
