Gran Canaria, as a Canary Island, also belongs to the islands of eternal spring. This is to express that the climatic conditions are mild throughout the year and do not change extremely over the year. In summer it is always pleasantly warm but rarely hot. It only gets hot when winds from Africa come to the island.
Winters are usually mild. One can assume that the temperatures usually never fall below 20° C, the highest values are reached in autumn (about 27°C). Also the differences day - night are rather marginal. Normally, temperatures go down around 4°C at night. It is usually coolest in January and warmest in October.
The water temperatures are around 20°C all year round, in summer or late summer they can reach 25°C.
With all this good news you have to keep in mind that Gran Canaria is divided into two climates by the central mountains. The north is cooler and receives more rain, the south is usually mild and quite dry. Here in the south are also the most important tourist resorts. One of the fillets is the area from San Augustin to Puerto de Mogan. With more than 340 sunny days the region is one of the sunniest at all. The temperature differences between north and south are striking and should be noted - in the north it is on average about 7°C cooler than in the south! However, this does not mean much. Because the north is a region, which offers a spring-like weather all year round. Here the designation eternal spring would be quite justified. Therefore, the stay in the area from Agaete to Las Palmas is quite pleasant. Even here you still get a good 300 sunny days a year!
Up on the heights it can snow in the winter and the snow remains also longer time. Here it is basically more precipitation and therefore cloudier. Therefore, there are only about 200 sunny days per year at the higher altitudes.
Gran Canaria can be called a year-round destination, the best time for Gran Canaria is basically the whole year. In winter, the Canary Islands are popular with Central Europeans and are always well booked. In summer, Gran Canaria is a popular destination for mainland Spaniards who like the pleasant summer temperatures here and want to escape the heat of the mainland for a few weeks. One should note: In recent years, the period from late November to January has proven to be somewhat unstable.
