Best Time To Travel To: Guatemala

Guatemala is one of the larger countries in Central America. The country is located between 14° and 18° north. It has borders with Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. The country also has a small coastal strip on the Caribbean Sea and a larger one on the west coast to the Pacific Ocean.

The north of the country consists of a lowland, which has a hot tropical climate. Rain can always fall here, the main rainy season is between May and September.

The west and south of Guatemala are very mountainous, with some quite high peaks, often of volcanic origin. Here the climate is usually very pleasant year-round, but it can get quite cool at night. The Pacific coast shows quite warm to hot temperatures all year round. Most of the time the humidity is uncomfortably high here, only in the pure dry season it is a bit more pleasant. The best travel time for the Pacific coast should therefore be between November and April.

The rainforest in the lowlands has a very special climate. Here it is very hot all year round, extremely humid-hot in the rainy season, very dry and hot in the dry season. The rainy season can bring extremely heavy rainfall.

When is the best time for Guatemala

The best time to travel to Guatemala is usually from November to April. Here the country itself is in summer vacation. But then it is also relatively busy. Most tourists usually come around Christmas and New Year and possibly around Easter. From May to October the rainy season arrives. You can travel in the country, but especially in regions with unpaved roads you can get problems. Nevertheless, from June to August there is once again quite a large rush of tourists, although the weather is then not always optimal.
