Best Time To Travel To: Lanzarote

Lanzarote belongs to the Canary Islands and is therefore also called an island of eternal spring. With Lanzarote, however, this can be somewhat misleading. Because Lanzarote is usually called the driest of all Canary Islands next to Fuerteventura. In fact, it rains comparatively little. Once cloudy, it still rains rarely or at least little. The reason is among other things the topography. Unlike Fuerteventura, Lanzarote is not completely flat. On the other hand, large parts of the island are comparatively flat. With an altitude of not even 700 meters, Penas Del Coche is the highest mountain on the island.

Notable precipitation on Lanzarote is normally between December, January and March and basically the north is wetter than other parts. In the north, it is the Famara Mountains that provide precipitation. Especially in winter, you should therefore make sure that you are accommodated, for example, on the drier southwest coast. A special case and almost curious is the area around Haria, which within Lanzarote almost seems like a green oasis.

Now it is actually the case that due to this structure one must assume a humid climate. In fact, the air is indeed loaded with humidity, otherwise probably no plant growth would be possible at all. But temperatures are kept at a reasonably bearable level by trade winds in summer. However, when warm currents from the Sahara come through, it can get uncomfortably hot. When the Levante (also Calima) blows, Lanzarote gets high temperatures with peaks around 40°C.

Since the temperatures are otherwise very balanced throughout the year, you can travel the island all year round. On an annual average, one can always expect temperatures around 20°C. The peak temperatures are clearly above 30°C. Under the influence of the Levante the thermometer can rise towards 40°C. As mentioned, cooling trade winds usually provide a pleasant climate. Thus, high temperatures become more pleasant and at night the temperature drops significantly compared to the day. Due to the warm Canary currents, Lanzarote also has quite pleasant water temperatures all year round, which theoretically also allow a bathing vacation all year round. You only have to consider on which coast you enter the water. The north is always a bit cooler and especially in winter you notice that. The water temperatures can go down to 17°C - at certain places it feels cooler to some vacationers.

When is the best time to travel to Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a good year-round destination. Typically, mainland Spaniards like to book the Canary Islands in summer, many Central Europeans prefer winter. In winter it is a bit milder, it can rain sometimes. Here you have to emphasize especially the months of December and January, recently there was bad weather in the phase every now and then. Summers are usually very warm and, the further away from the coast you get, quite hot. Nevertheless, there is usually always a breeze blowing on the island and as long as it is not the Levante, the wind is then also pleasant. The optimal travel time for Lanzarote could be the months of May, June and October. Then +you are not yet in the extreme high season, but the temperatures are quite balanced.
