Best Time To Travel To: Latvia

Latvia is located in Northern Europe. It has borders with Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Belarus. There is also a coastal strip to the Baltic Sea.

Latvia has a similar climate to Lithuania. Here, too, one can speak of a temperate continental climate with a certain maritime influence. Summers are quite warm, spring and autumn are mild, and winters, influenced by winds from Russia, are quite cold and usually snowy.

Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although even in Latvia you can usually expect the most rain in August. The warmest month is usually July, and the coldest is January (which is also similar to Lithuania). In the east of the country, you can expect the coldest temperatures in February.

Summers are usually warm and dry. In recent years, Latvia has also seen some increase in temperatures. Summers have often been very warm and dry. On average, you can expect 23°C, with the peaks normally going easily towards 30°C. The same is true for Latvia: near the Baltic Sea, winters are not quite as warm. The water temperatures in summer are not always suitable for swimming.

Winters can be quite cold in Latvia. Often, snow and frost cause obstructions to public life.

Spring and autumn can be delightful. Especially in September and in some places in October you can experience good periods.

When is the best time to go to Latvia

The period from May to September is usually considered the best time to visit Latvia. However, it should be noted that August is usually the rainiest month (in terms of quantity in mm) during the year. One should not forget that spring and autumn can be good times to travel in Latvia. However, there are always cooler periods here, of course.
