Mallorca offers a typical Mediterranean climate of the Balearic Islands. The summers are usually warm, the winters are usually not extremely cold. August tends to be warmest, February the coldest month. Of course, the climate on Mallorca is never predictable and no longer as stable as it used to be. Summers have tended to be warmer over the past few years.
Spring and autumn on Mallorca are extremely attractive. These seasons are often referred to as the golden seasons. Autumn with September and October often brings very nice phases with temperatures above 20 ° C, but it can also be cooler. Above all, you have to reckon with the onset of the first autumn storms from October, which can sometimes bring a lot of rain in a relatively short time.
The cool months from the end of January are interesting, because then the almond blossom begins, which has its own charm. However, the temperatures can then be relatively cool. Mallorca will turn green from this time on, this phase will last until the beginning of summer. One can also highlight March when the many fruit trees start to bloom. Normally, however, the green becomes much less in the course of summer. From May it will normally be quite warm. The green vegetation must give way at the latest in the dry months of July and August. In autumn it then gets more rainy and the vegetation recovers. Autumn can be comparatively humid due to the onset of rain and high temperatures in places.
The summers are usually hot and dry, in central Mallorca it gets very hot with temperatures around 40 ° C. There is not so much to see of the blooming landscape. Now you can mainly go on a beach holiday here. The high season is the very warm and dry months of July and August.
The water temperatures naturally follow the general temperatures, whereby the water temperature in May / June is usually around 20 ° C. In August / September you usually have the highest water temperature with about 24 ° C.
Basically one can speak of a kind of rainy phase from October onwards. The first signs of this are rains in early autumn (here the first cool rains were observed as early as August!). The rainy phase begins around October. October is generally considered to be the rainiest month on Mallorca. Floods can then occur again and again. The temperatures then drop relatively quickly from November onwards. The west coast receives a lot of rain from October to January, in Palma the phase is from October to December.
The winters are traditionally not severe and not snowy. As a rule, mild and slightly humid winters are assumed. Temperatures are around 10 ° C on average. But here, too, the last years showed a different side. Besides the Tramuntana Mountains which can always receive snow in winter there had been snowfall on the whole island from time to time (e. g. winter 2009/2010).
The best time for Mallorca is mainly determined by the individual preferences of the vacationer. If you want a beach holiday, the summer from May to September is definitely advisable. Mallorca is known to be very scenic in spring and autumn. Normally it is pleasant and not quite as hot - but it can also be cool! As mentioned above, you have to reckon with the first heavy rain phases from October. But spring and autumn ist generally seen to be ideal for vacationers who want to see something of the landscape and want to hike. The winters in Mallorca used to be considered, weather-wise, rather calm. It used to be the parade time for long-term vacationers. In the meantime, however, they have to adjust to stormy, cool and snowy phases. That was rarely the case in the past. Nevertheless, winter in Mallorca can still be an alternative to winter in Central Europe. But you should find out about the current forecasts as soon as possible.
