Mauritius is located at 20 ° South in the Indian Ocean. The island consists of a large number of volcanic elevations that usually reach a maximum height of 800 meters. These Elevations have an impact on the climate. While the humidity in mountain regions can be 90 to 100%, in the coastal area it is "only" 70 percent.
The climate in Mauritius is called tropical or tropical oceanic. The temperatures are not subject to extreme fluctuations all year round - but fluctuate a little more than in purely tropical regions without oceanic influence. As mentioned at the beginning, the humidity is relatively high and practically throughout the year. The temperatures in Mauritius rarely reach extreme ranges, in the country it is on average around 23 ° C, at higher altitudes around 19.5 ° C. It usually cools down a bit at night, but it can still be humid at night.
The precipitation is distributed quite evenly over the whole year. Nevertheless, one can make out two seasons of the year - the winter from May to approx. November is relatively dry. The summer from December to April is usually more rainy. During this phase you have to expect tropical storms (especially January to March). They usually bring rain with them.
The general recommendation for traveling into the country is the winter from May to November. The optimal travel time for Mauritius could be set between September and January. From the end of September it gets warmer, it rains relatively little and the temperatures are pleasant. This is ideal for active vacationers and theoretically you can also swim. It gets warmer from December to March. Many vacationers populate Mauritius in October and November as well as during the Easter holidays. May is often recommended for Mauritius but can be a problematic month in which there can be violent storms. July and August can be interesting for Mauritius - the weather is still decent by our standards and the low season is favorable. Basically, one should always note: in the high altitudes it is normally a good 4 to 6 ° C cooler and more rainy, also in the area of the east coast it is always a little cooler and windier and at least at the beginning of the year a little more rainy. The north and west parts tend to be drier and warmer.
