Best Time To Travel To: Morocco

The climate in Morocco is influenced by the Mediterranean climate (in the northwest) and a climate shaped by the Sahara in the southern part. In addition, the atlas forms a kind of climate limit in the country, in the mountainous regions there is of course a mountain climate above all.

Morocco is located at the north-western end of Africa and has coastal areas on the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The north coast of Morocco and the mountains of Rif have a Mediterranean climate. The north-west and here also parts of the Rif are more influenced by the Atlantic with colder winters and generally higher rainfall.

Around Agadir the Atlantic coast comes to approx. 200mm of rain in winter, the further south you go, the drier it gets. At some point the coast merges into the Sahara. Sea and air temperatures in the Atlantic are usually slightly lower than those in the Mediterranean. Along the Atlantic coast, it is also cooler in summer than in the very hot inland. Winters are mild on the Atlantic coast and there is usually no snow. The climate table of Rabat is representative of this region of Morocco.

In the inland area of the Atlas Mountains, temperatures are mainly determined by the altitude. After all, the Atlas Mountains reach up to 4,163 meters. Snow is normal in the high regions in winter and, above all, it can snow heavily. Some regions are covered with snow until summer.

The lower you get, the warmer or hotter it gets. But it can get surprisingly cold in winter, especially when the winds from the mountains bring an ice-cold breath with them. In the middle altitudes inland you will find a mixture of both climates, here the climate is extremely pleasant and is even considered to be very healthy. The summers are hot, but very pleasant due to the rather dry air. The winters are mild with a few hours of sunshine. The climate table of Marrakech can be used here as a representative.

The climate in the Sahara is of course relatively extreme again, here you have a typical desert climate. That means it is very hot all year round. However, the further you go south and thus to the coast, the more pleasant the climate.
