Oman is located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. In the north, Oman has a coastline to the Gulf of Oman, in the south to the Arabian Sea. There are land borders with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
In the north, Oman is relatively mountainous, where the Jebel Akhdar rises to around 3,000 meters. At the very top - compared to the rest of the country - there is a lot of rain with about 400mm. Only in the hills around the Dhofar does it rain significantly, in the rest of the country it rains less than 125mm.
The cloudy rainy season on the south coast is between June and September, at Jebel Akhdar and in the northern lowlands it can rain all year round. Oman is hit by tropical cyclones from time to time, which then bring humid and windy weather and also have a certain destructive power.
The temperatures in the country are high all year round, as is the humidity. It is hottest from May to September, the heat paired with the humidity is very uncomfortable and stressful. The further inland you go towards the Rub 'al Khali desert, the hotter it gets. However, inland it is always a bit more pleasant, as the humidity is lower and the night temperatures are pleasantly lower.
From May to September it is relatively hot in the country, but it is very dry. The period between November and March is therefore often cited as the best travel time for Oman, which is basically okay. But: in rare cases you have to expect storms during this phase (like in November 2011 or March 2016).
