Best Time To Travel To: Tenerife

Like all the Canary Islands, Tenerife is one of the islands of eternal spring. This is justified because the annual mean temperatures hardly fluctuate more than 6 degrees. Nevertheless, you have to be aware of Tenerife that it is not sunshine all year round. Due to the north-east trade winds and the Canary Islands currents, it remains pleasantly warm all year round, the water temperatures rarely drop below 20 degrees.

In any case, the Teide, which divides the island climatically, is central to the climate. In contrast to the south and west, the north and east of Tenerife have more rain. The south in particular benefits from the protection of the Teide and is comparatively dry and sunny and therefore also very popular with tourists. On the other hand, the north / northeast is much greener due to the higher rainfall. Many say : the north is rainy, the south is dry. You can leave it that way.

Tenerife is very busy in winter, and sometimes even a little less busy in summer. Here, too, you have to keep in mind: especially in the south of the island, the winter is pleasantly warm, warmer than the north / northeast. That is why the south of Tenerife is also a popular travel destination in winter. Regardless of this, the climate - compared to Central Europe - is very pleasant all year round and almost everywhere. Seen in this way, Tenerife is an ideal year-round destination. In winter, the air temperature usually stays above 20 degrees, although much higher temperatures are of course possible in the sun on the beach. In winter you have to be especially careful when it gets windy. Then it can get chilly in the evening. And basically the same applies to Tenerife: the higher you go, the cooler it gets. For Tenerife this also means: the further away from the coast towards Teide, the cooler it gets. In winter the Teide can be covered with snow, in places parts of the Cañadas.

The most sunny parts of Tenerife are usually the coastal areas between Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes.

The ideal travel time for Tenerife is usually the period in summer from May to August. The months of April and September as well as October can also be attractive. In November and December - as has been observed again and again in recent years - one has to reckon with severe storms. Most recently, January was also very rainy, with a lot of snow falling on the Teide.
