Best Time To Travel To: Uruguay

Uruguay is located on the east coast of South America between 30° and 35° south. The country borders Brazil and Argentina and consists mainly of flat land, there are only a few elevations, which are then at most around 450 meters high.

The climate in Uruguay is often compared to that of the Argentinean pampas. However, due to the low altitude differences in the country, the climate is hardly different throughout the country. Basically, the coastal areas are somewhat cooler than the interior.

In Uruguay rainfall is rather moderate, averaging around 1000mm. The rain falls relatively evenly distributed over the year. Actually only the autumn should be emphasized, when it rains a little more than usual.

Summers in the country are warm, but not as hot as in other countries of this grade. Winters are usually mild. Frost and snow are rather rare. Basically, Uruguay is still within the range of the cold polar winds, but they have lost much of their coldness over the South Atlantic by the time they reach the country. Nevertheless, it must be noted that these southwest winds can bring some cold and can produce relatively strong temperature fluctuations.

In the interior temperatures are generally somewhat higher than on the coast. In Uruguay it is actually always quite sunny - in winter the country gets on average about 6 hours of sunshine per day, in summer a good 10 hours. However, the climate always remains very pleasant as the humidity is not extremely high.

When is the best time to travel to Uruguay?

The best time to travel to Uruguay is between November and April. Then it is summer in the country. What you might want to consider is the possibility of thunderstorms, for example, in April and here especially in the coastal regions. Winter is from May to October. Then you have, depending on the region, to expect temperatures below 0° C.
